A proposal
to amend the Bill of Rights to insure the right of all Americans to be provided fair and objective information on important matters affecting their lives and well-being and the future well-being of the United States and its people.
Under the Constitution, all institutions of the United States, both public and private are created to serve the interests of the sovereign power in the United States -- its people. All institutions in the United States, public or private, are therefore the creation of the people of the United States and exist only with the authority, direct or delegated, of the American people. As creatures of the American people, these institutions, public or private, cannot work against the interests of its sovereign -- the American people. And when any institution, public or private, begins to work against the interests of the American people, this is a violation of the sovereign right of the American people under the Constitution.
It is the right of all Americans to have access to fair and objective information on important matters affecting their lives and well-being, and the future well-being of this country and its people. Through the Constitution, the people of the United States provided constitutional safeguards for the press and later the other primary means of providing fair and objective information to the people. When radio and later television became primary means of public communication, the people of the United States allowed the use of the publically-owned air waves in return for the continued availability of fair and objective information. What the American people can give, the American people can take away. When media institutions in the United States, public or private, no longer provide such fair and objective information, this is a violation of the sovereign right of the American people under the constitution.
The first amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees the freedom of the press, but when the press and the other primary means of providing fair and objective information to the people of the United States -- the Mainstream Media -- fall under the control of public or private institutions striving to distort or conceal this information for political or economic purposes, this is a violation of the sovereign right of the American people.
One of the roles of the press and the other primary means of providing information to the people of the United States was to act as a watchdog guarding against the excesses of any institution, public or private, in the United States. When the press and the other primary means of providing information to the people of the United States no longer act as a watchdog for the people but are themselves engaging in actions against the interests of the people, this violates the sovereign rights of all of the American people.
